Fast Track from Master to PhD

The International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste offers 2 fellowships in the framework of an "Advanced Training Programme" leading to a fast track PhD in connection with the Inter-University Master course in Physics jointly delivered by the Universities of Trieste and Udine.

The programme lasts 2 years, it is aimed to candidates who wish to acquire theoretical tools and necessary skills to start a high level research activity in Theoretical Physics of the Condensed Matter and it consists of two parallel and complementary trainings: the Inter-University Master course in Physics jointly delivered by the Universities of Trieste and Udine and a set of courses held by the researchers and professors of the SISSA "Theory and Numerical Simulations of Condensed Matter" PhD course.

Important: there are no fast track positions available for the academic year 2022-2023. However, you can find below some relevant information about the call for application of the past academic year (2021-2022). 

Information for the academic year 2021-2022

The 2-year fellowships (€ 6.000,00 gross per year) are disciplined by a special agreement and are incompatible with those provided by other organizations for the same purpose. A contribution towards living expenses up to € 250,00 gross per month will be awarded to those who will subscribe a registered rent contract in the Trieste province. To non-EU admitted candidates travel expenses to reach the School will be reimbursed up to a maximum amount of € 1.000,00.

Access to the Programme will be allowed, in addition to the 2 winners of the scholarship, to the next 4 eligible candidates.

To be admitted to the Programme, candidates must be in possession of one of the following degrees by 31 October, 2021:

  • Italian laurea triennale in a scientific subject;
  • A University degree obtained abroad and considered equivalent to the aforementioned Italian degrees by the governing bodies of the Universities of Trieste and Udine (i.e. B.Sc.).
